Hit by Shrapnel Moved by a Shell – Pte. W. Range Had Two Narrow Escapes and is Now in Hospital

To be hit in the shoulder by shrapnel and then shortly afterwards blown 15 feet and badly shaken up by another shell, which confined him to bed for 12 days, was the experience of Pte. William Edward Range of Brantford, who is now in the Howard de Walden hospital, Maidstone, Kent.

All Pte. Range’s relatives live in England and for this reason the casualty was not known here till a letter was received by C. Bezant, 108 St. George Street. Pte. Range was not seriously hurt. He had only been at the front for eight weeks and received his injuries while participating in the fighting on June 14 and 15 to recover ground lost on June 2 and 3. In his letter Pte. Range is high in his praise of the hospital staff for the care bestowed on him. Before enlisting he was employed at Buck’s Stove works.
