BX September 11, 1916

William Edward Greensides

A cablegram received here yesterday from Lieut.-Col. M.E.B. Cutcliffe, bore the news that Private W.E. Greensides of the 125th Battalion had been operated on Saturday afternoon for appendicitis. A telegram was also received from Ottawa to the effect that Pte. Greensides was seriously ill. Previous to enlistment he kept a grocery store at the corner of Brant Avenue and Church Streets.

Sergt.-Major Frank L. Johnson, 17 Waterloo Street, and William Edward Greensides, are in this morning’s casualty list reported as being wounded and seriously ill, respectively. Both were announced in The Expositor early in the week, but not until this morning was the official announcement made.

William E. Greensides

The death took place Friday at his residence, 21 Huron Street, of William Edward Greensides, husband of Joanne E. Poss, in his sixty-eighth year. Mr. Greensides, born in Perth County, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Greensides of Atwood, Ontario. He has been a resident of this City for forty-five years. Mr. Greensides was a member of Wesley United Church. He leaves to mourn his loss besides his widow two daughters, Mrs. L.R. Buck, Belleville, Mrs. J.W. Young, Kitchener, and a son, Hilton, Kilgore, Texas, also a brother, George, Atwood. The deceased is resting at Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

William E. Greensides

Funeral services for William Edward Greensides, 21 Huron Street, were conducted Sunday afternoon from Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home. Rev. Fred R. Hendershot, Minister of Wesley United Church, had charge of the service. The pallbearers were H.M. McIntyre, Charles Lewis, J.K. Taylor, John Brown, R.E. McIntyre and E.C. Passmore. Interment took place in Mount Hope Cemetery.
