Circumstances of Casualty: Killed in Action. He took part with his Company in an attack made from West of Gentiles, along Amiens-Roye Road, on Beaucourt, and when nearing the objective was wounded in both legs. He received immediate attention but died a few hours later.

The sad but proud message from the front that is now so frequent has come to Mrs. Thomas Howell, 17 Walter Street, stating briefly that her husband was killed in action, August 8. Sergeant Thomas Howell had been a sergeant in the Dufferin Rifles, and he went overseas as sergeant-major with the 125th Battalion. He was drafted to France with the 54th and since March 26 he has been in action in France. Sergeant Howell came from England to Brantford in 1908, and for five years he was employed at the Verity Plow Works. His father lives in England, while here in Brantford are left his wife and his little son Norman and his daughter Lucy.

In the list of casualties issued from Ottawa this morning Sergeant Thomas Howell of Brantford is officially reported at having been killed in action.
