BX March 27, 1940

Samuel Reed Sr.

Samuel Reed, 69 Charing Cross Street, passed away Tuesday afternoon in the Brantford General Hospital in his sixty-ninth year.  Surviving are three sons.  Samuel, City; Frank, Paris, Fred, White Court, Alberta; and three daughters, Mrs. William Pash, Mrs. Robert Smith and Mrs. S. McKinnon, all of this City.  Born in London, Ontario, Mr. Reed came to Brantford fifty-two years ago.  He was a painter by trade and served in the First Great War as a member of the 125th Battalion.  The deceased is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home where the service will be held Friday afternoon.  Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot, Mount Hope Cemetery.

BX March 30, 1940

Samuel Reed Sr.

The funeral of Samuel Reed, Sr., was conducted Friday afternoon from the Beckett Funeral Home, with interment in the Soldiers’ Plot at Mount Hope Cemetery.  Rev. R. W. Lane, Rector of St. James’ Anglican Church, officiated at the services, which were attended by members of the 125th Battalion Association and the Canadian Legion, of which the deceased was a member. Comrades of these organizations acted as pallbearers.  “Reveille” and “Last Post” were sounded at the graveside by Bugler P. Gillingwater.  The pallbearers were Comrades E.R. Edwards, G. Bennett, R. Rohrer, M. Martin, J. Hughes and C. Scanlon.
