BX June 16, 1916

The Local Casualties in Recent Fighting 

That Sapper Robert Horsnell of the Engineers had been admitted to No. 8 Stationary Hospital at Wimereux suffering from shell shock was the news received this morning by his brother, Gordon Horsnell, of 197 Market Street. Shortly after the outbreak of war, Robert Horsnell, who was working in Memphis, Tenn., returned to his home here and enlisted with the 25th Brant Dragoons. After reaching Toronto he went to England with a draft and has been at the front with the signalling troop of the 3rd Canadian division. Robert William Horsnell is 38 years of age, single, and a veteran of the South African campaign.

Veterans Returned Home

Private Robert William Horsnell resides on Alfred Street, Pte. Roderick Eastman, who lives at 157 Murray Street, was a member of the C.M.R. for over a year and he has received his discharge papers and is once more with his family. Pte. Horsnell was wounded in the stomach.

Robert William Horsnell, 47 ½ Dalhousie Street, passed away yesterday afternoon in the Brantford General Hospital in his sixty-ninth year.  Mr. Horsnell was born in Brantford and had been a continuous resident of this City except for the time that he served in South Africa in the South African War, and for his period of service in the First Great War.  He was an electrician by trade, and a member of the Canadian Legion.  Mr. Horsnell is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home until Saturday afternoon, when services will be conducted under the auspices of the Canadian Legion.  Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot, Mount Hope Cemetery.

Robert William Horsnell

The funeral of Robert W. Horsnell was conducted Saturday afternoon from the Beckett Funeral Home to the Soldiers’ Plot, Mount Hope Cemetery.  The services were conducted under the auspices of the Canadian Legion, with Rev. John Kelman, Padre of Branch 90 officiating.  Comrade Ernie Edwards was in charge of the Legion representation.  The pallbearers were George Blathwayt, Steve Cara and Fred Wild, members of the Springboks and George Gaydon, G. Truckle and D. Monkman, Canadian Legion.
