Another Member Joins the Navy – Peter Jones Rejected from 125th Enlists with His Brother

Patriotism runs in families.  This conclusion is reached after a survey of Brantford’s war records.  Today another evidence of this comes to light through the signing up of Peter Jones, 8 Park Avenue, for the navy.  He is a brother of Thomas Jones, returned 4th Battalion man, who re-enlisted on Saturday with the navy.  The latest Jack Tar, Peter Jones, was a member of the 125th Battalion but was rejected at Camp Borden.  He has however improved since then, and Petty Officer George Holmes who is charged with recruiting here for the R.N.C.V.R. was sure that he would make a good sailor.  He is an Englishman by birth, 19 years of age, and formerly employed as a drill hand.  Petty Officer Holmes was only sent to Brantford for one week, but he is obtaining such good results – four men already – that he is at present in touch with two more men whom he expects to sign up within a day or two.  It is likely then that he will be sent elsewhere to recruit wherever enthusiasm has been aroused for the navy.
