Gilbert James Mears
Gilbert James Mears, 22 Wells Avenue died Wednesday afternoon at the Brantford General Hospital, in his 76th year. He was born in Kent, England, and came to Brantford 46 years ago. He retired from his work as a machinist in 1945. During the First World War, Mr. Mears served with the 125th Battalion. He was a member of the Canadian Legion and an adherent of Sydenham Street United Church. He leaves besides his widow, the former Gertrude Flory, one daughter, Miss Gladys Mears, at home; one brother, Sydney Mears, and five sisters, Mrs. Edward (Ellen) Bingham, Miss Beatrice Mears, Mrs. Harry (Ruth) Isaac, Mrs. Roy (Agnes) Stuart and Mrs. William (Dorothy) McLaren all of Brantford. Mr. Mears is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home until Saturday for service at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Gilbert James Mears
The funeral of Gilbert J. Mears 22 Wells Avenue, was conducted Saturday afternoon at the Beckett Funeral Home, with Rev. Norman R. Kelley of Sydenham United Church officiating. There was a large attendance and there was a beautiful display of floral tributes. The pallbearers were Douglas and Donald Mears and Jack Culver all nephews of Mr. Mears; Comrade David Monkman, representing the Canadian Legion, Branch 90; Gordon Sims and Norman Wood. Interment was in the Soldiers’ plot in Mount Hope cemetery. The 25 Year Club from the Canadian Legion was represented by Comrade William Prior.
