BX September 9, 1918

Private Daniel Maracle has been wounded in the hand and is suffering from contusions in the 3rd West General hospital, Cardiff. Mr. Joseph Maracle, Ohsweken, received the word informing him that he was wounded on August 31. Pte. Maracle enlisted in 1916 with the 114th Battalion.

Daniel Maracle

Daniel Maracle, Ohsweken, veteran of the First Great War, who also served in this war, died suddenly Monday morning.  He was very well-known and highly respected.  Born forty-eight years ago, he served for four years overseas in the First Great War and was a member of the Veterans’ Guard of Canada in this one, being a guard at prisoner-of-war camps.  He is survived by two brothers, Peter and John, Ohsweken, Mr. Maracle is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home until Thursday, when he will be conveyed to White Church, on the Six Nations Reservation, where a public funeral service will be conducted in the afternoon.

Daniel Maracle

The funeral of Daniel Maracle, veteran of the First Great War, who also served in this war, was conducted from the Beckett Funeral Home Thursday afternoon with Rev. John Kelman, Padre of the Brantford Branch, Canadian Legion, officiating.  Many friends and relatives wee in attendance to pay a last tribute of respect.  Interment was in White church Cemetery, Six Nations Reservation, the Last Post and Reveille, being sounded by Bugler W. Bessant of No. 20 C.I.B.T.C.  The pallbearers were Arnold Maracle, Frederick Maracle, Stewart Maracle, James Martin, Allan Martin and Leo Staats.
