BX July 16, 1917

That Alexander Merson of the infantry, had been admitted to the General hospital at Etaples, suffering from gunshot wound in the shoulder, eye and wrist was the word received this morning by his wife, Mrs. Jeannie Merson of 105 Lyons Avenue. Before enlisting, Pte. Merson was a Chef in a hotel in Buffalo, but came back to Brantford to enlist, his wife being from Brantford. He signed up with the 38th Dufferin Rifles here and then joined the 84th Battalion. He was a cook with that battalion during the winter spent here. On reaching England he was transferred to another Battalion.

BX March 5, 1918

Further Treatment

Private Alex Merson left Saturday for the Military Hospital, Toronto, for further treatment. Pte. Merson left here with the 84th Battalion, and on arrival in England was transferred to the 75th. He was wounded in July, 1917 in the shoulder, wrist and eye and was invalided home on December 1. His home is at 107 Lyons Avenue.

MERSON – In the Brantford General Hospital, on Saturday, February 14, 1970, Alexander Merson (retired Canadian National Railways employee) in his 87th year, 172 North Park Street; husband of the late Jane Wood; dear father of Kenneth of Brantford, William of Toronto, Mr. Willard “Bill” (Edith) Day of Brantford, and the late Sydney Merson; also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  Resting Hill and Robinson Limited Funeral Home, Nelson and Queen Streets, until Tuesday.  Service in the chapel 2 p.m. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery. Rev. A.C. Whitcombe will officiate.
