The memorial service in honor of the late Private William Marchmont Smith who died of wounds in France was held in Grand River Methodist Church. Rev. James Drew conducted the service. There was a large turnout, many relatives being present. Orangemen of different lodges attended, and members of the I.O.F. of Ohsweken, of which the late Pte. Smith was a member. He leaves a wife, father and a brother, John, who is also doing his bit in France, and two sisters, Mrs. Freeman Douglas, and Miss Louise Smith.
