BX May 17, 1917

Private William Henry Neale, Infantry has been wounded and admitted to the 1st South African General Hospital at Abbeville, according to word received by his mother, Mrs. Mary Neale, 94 Alfred Street. He was wounded in the hip and foot by gunshot. Pte. Neale was a single man and went overseas with the first overseas battalion of the “Duffs.”  He was employed at the Steel Products Company.

William H. Neale

William Henry Neale, 68 of 244 Sheridan Street, died today at home.  Born in Plymouth England, he came to Canada as a boy and had resided in Brantford and St. George for the past 50 years.  Mr. Neale was a veteran of the First World War, serving overseas with the 125th Battalion.  He was a retired employee of Koehring-Waterous Limited, and was a member of St. Jude’s Anglican Church.  Surviving besides his wife, the former Sadie M. Battram are four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Strong of Brantford, Mrs. B.J. (Shirley) Van Fleet of Cornwallis, N.S., Mrs. Clare (Elizabeth) Brawn of Etobicoke, and Miss Eleanor Neale at home; three sons, William E., Raymond F. and Robert H. all of Brantford; 15 grandchildren, three brothers, John E. and Albert, both of Brantford, Robert of Vancouver.  Mr. Neale is at the Beckett Funeral Home for service Friday at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in the Soldiers Plot, Mount Hope Cemetery.  Rev. J.A. Munro of St. Mark’s Anglican Church will officiate.
