Death Calls Dr. W. Gould
PARIS, December 23 – Dr. William James Haines Gould, died suddenly at his residence, 144 Grand River Street, Saturday afternoon in his 70th year. He had practiced medicine here for thirty-three years.
Dr. Gould led an active life in his chosen profession until his retirement in November, 1945. He was also widely recognized in Canadian medical circles.
During his life in Paris, Dr. Gould took a keen and active interest in the work of St. Paul’s United Church, and at the time of his death was Secretary of the Board of Trustees, which position he had filled for a number of years, and an honorary member of the Board of Stewards, on which Board he also served for many years. He was a member of the Paris Board of Education for several years and a well-known lawn bowler.
Born in St. Giles, Devonshire, England, 1877, he came to Canada at the age of six, his family settling at London, Ont. There he attended the University of Western Ontario School of Medicine and obtained his degree in 1905.
He practiced at Ilderton, Ont., for five years, before coming to Paris in 1912, where he has resided ever since.
He is survived by his widow, Edith Henry Gould, two sons, Dr. Sidney Gould and Ernest Gould, both of Toronto; one daughter Mildred, at home, and one sister Miss Anne Gould, London, Ont. Dr. Gould is resting at Cummings Funeral Home, where services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. J.T. Heslop officiating.
