BX March 24, 1942

Walter John Petley

The death took place early this morning of Walter John Petley, 95 Peel Street.  Deceased was born in Kent, England, coming to Canada thirty-six years ago.  On September 24, 1914, he enlisted with the Canadian Field Artillery, 3rd Ammunition Column and served overseas until 1919.  A member of Grace Anglican Church and the Canadian Legion, deceased made a wide circle of friends who will mourn his passing.  Surviving are two nephews, Robert G. Kite and Edward H. Kite and one niece, Mrs. Bertha Anderson, of this City, Mr. Petley is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home until Thursday afternoon, when the funeral will take place, with interment in the Soldiers’ Plot at Mount Hope Cemetery.

The funeral of Walter Petley was conducted Thursday afternoon from the Beckett Funeral Home, with Ven. Archdeacon A.L.G. Clarke of Grace Anglican Church in charge.  Interment was in the Soldiers’ Plot at Mount Hope Cemetery, where “Reveille” and “Last Post” were sounded by Bugler C. Mottashed.  The pallbearers were E.R. Edwards, J. Hughes, H. Twidale, M. Martin, T. Kirton and H. Kneller, fellow members of deceased from the Brantford Branch of the Canadian Legion.
