BX April 12, 1918

Mr. Benjamin C. Linington, 129 Erie Avenue, has received official word that his son, Private Walter Jay Linington has been admitted to the Third General Hospital, Le Treporte, France suffering from gunshot wounds in the left hand. The report from the front was dated April 4.

Walter J. Linington

Walter J. Linington, 69 of Brantford, died here Thursday.  Born in the St. George district, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Linington, and had been a resident of Brantford for the past 45 years.  Mr. Linington was formerly a machinist, with Bradley Machine and Williams Tool.  He was a veteran of the First World War, serving overseas with the “Mad Fourth” Battalion.  He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 90.  Surviving besides his wife, the former Winnifred Rowen are three sons, Walter, Earl and Melvin, all of Brantford; five daughters, Mrs. George (Winnie) McLellan of R7 Brantford, Mrs. James (Barbara) Dwyer, Mrs. William (Hazel) Oulton, Mrs. Jack (Sharon) DeWaard, all of Brantford, and Mrs. Gerald (Beverly) Cowan of Norwich; four brothers, Norman of Hamilton, Earl, George and Charles, all of Brantford; one sister, Mrs. Fred (Doria) Brand of Toronto; 16 grandchildren.  Mr. Linington is at Hill and Robinson Funeral Home for service Saturday at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
