Pioneer Taxi Man Dies in Car

Volney (Bonnie) Lingard, 71 of 217 Dalhousie Street, a pioneer in the taxi service in this area, died Tuesday at the wheel of his parked car.

Mr. Lingard was well known in Brantford and district as a taxi driver, having operated Lingard Taxi for 50 years.

The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lingard, he was born in Brantford and had been a resident here all his life.

He was a former member of St. James’ Anglican Church on the Hill and attended St. Jude’s Anglican Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Sophronia Ballard, one daughter, Mrs. Chester (Yvonne) Bewick of Brantford; one step-son, Rev. N.A. Ballard of London and four grandchildren.

Mr. Lingard is at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home until Friday, for service in the chapel at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
