BX October 12, 1918

Mrs. Hawley, 76 Ontario Street, has received word that her son, Sergeant Thomas Gordon Hawley, has been officially reported wounded on Oct. 2, and admitted to the 54th General Hospital at Tubengue. His injuries consist of a gunshot wound in the head. Sergeant Hawley enlisted in the 36th Battalion when only 18 years of age, and has seen nearly three years’ service in France as a machine gunner in the 4th Battalion. His many friends are anxiously waiting for further news from him. His father is also overseas, having enlisted with the 125th Brant Battalion.

HAWLEY – At Sunnybrook Medical Centre, Toronto, on Wednesday, September 27, 1978, Thomas G. Hawley of 437 St. Paul Avenue; beloved husband of Alice Patterson; dear father of Donald Hawley, Brantford; loving grandfather of Sharon, Donald, Susan and Brian; brother of Mrs. A. (Edna) Putney, Brantford; Mrs. L.E. (Elizabeth) Ostrander, Winnipeg.  Mr. Hawley was a life member of the Fourth Battalion Association, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 90, 56 Field Artillery Sergeants' Mess, Brant Lodge No. 45 A.F. and A.M. and was a retired employee of Koehring-Waterous Limited.  Friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves Funeral Home, 88 Brant Avenue, from 7 p.m. Thursday, service including committal, in the chapel on Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Tweedle officiating.  Interment Mount Hope Cemetery.  Donations to the Poppy Fund of Branch 90 Royal Canadian Legion appreciated.
