Nature and Place of Casualty: Killed in Action

BX August 21, 1918

Word came to the parents of Private Sydney Smith, 22 ½ Edward Street, this morning that their son had given his life in the Great War. Private Smith was only 22 years old when he enlisted in January 1916, with the 125th Battalion. He was with the 54th when he fell on the field of honor in France. Four brothers are left to comfort their parents, one of them, Pte. Bert Smith was wounded in September 1916, and returned home about six months ago.
