Circumstances of Casualty: Killed in Action. While with his platoon advancing under heavy machine gun fire across the valley just East of Hangard Wood East, taking part in an attack on enemy positions at Cayeux, he was struck in the right side of his back by two machine gun bullets. He received immediate attention at the hands of his comrades but succumbed to his wounds shortly afterwards, and it is surmised that one of the bullets entered his spine, causing death.

Mrs. William F. Oswald of 34 Abigail Avenue, received the sad news on Saturday night that her nephew, Private Robert Hunter had been killed in action. Private Hunter was well known in Brantford, having lived here for a number of years, later going west, and at the time of enlisting he was residing in Toronto.
