Veterans Returning

Announcement is made by the military hospitals commission of the arrival of another contingent of returned soldiers at Halifax. The contingent will not reach Toronto until the end of this week. The Brantford men returning are: Pte. R. Clarke, Pte. R. Hockridge, Pte. S.E. Metcalfe, Sergt. E.C. Miller, Pte. A. Ramsay, Pte. R.W. Tyrell, Pte. F.S. Wade, Pte. T.L. Wright.

The marriage of Pte. Robert Hockridge of the 125th battalion and Miss Lizzie Lefler of this city took place on Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist church parsonage, Rev. Llewellyn Brown officiating.  The bride was becomingly attired in white silk trimmed with lace, and carried a bouquet of white roses.  Little Miss Dorothy Ridge made a pretty flower girl being dressed in a black and white coat, with white lace hat.  A dainty luncheon was afterwards enjoyed.  The happy young couple will reside at 193 Market Street.

Robert Hockridge

The funeral of Robert Thomas Duncan Hockridge, a Great War veteran who was a member of Brantford’s 215th Battalion, is being conducted this afternoon at Hamilton, with service at Truscott Brothers’ Funeral Home and interment in Woodland Cemetery.  Mr. Hockridge died in Christie Street Hospital Tuesday in his fifty-fourth year.  He had been in hospital for nine months.  Surviving are his widow, formerly Elizabeth Lefler; four sons, Wilfred, Hamilton; Joseph, Toronto; John, Brantford, and Samuel, Guelph; three daughters, Mrs. Harold Rumney, Hamilton; Miss Isabel Hockridge, Toronto, and Miss Letha Hockridge, Turkey Point; one brother, Joseph, Hamilton, and one sister, Mrs. Frederick Holdridge, Hamilton.

Robert Hockridge

The funeral of Robert Hockridge (father of John Hockridge, Brantford, and of Miss Letha Hockridge, Turkey Point), was conducted Thursday afternoon in Hamilton, with services in charge of Rev. Donald Steinman, Vineland. During the services Mrs. Charles Elford rendered a solo.  The pallbearers were Cpl. Percy Hall, Cpl. John Jennings, and Ptes. Cecil Marshall, John Terry, James Fay and Robert Robinson, all of the Hamilton Home Civil Guard.  Bugler William Jones sounded Last Post at the graveside.
