Brantford Boys Saw Old London – Chatty Letter is Received From Reg. Henwood of the 125th Battalion
Mr. E.D. Henwood, Librarian, has received and interesting letter from his son, Reginald Alfred Henwood, who is with the 125th Battalion at Bramshott. He writes:
September 1, 1916
Bramshott Camp
Dear Mother,
I have just returned from six days’ leave in London. We had a fine time and each of us enjoyed himself in about the same way. I liked seeing the sights and visited all the famous places. I sent you most of the guides so that you can see the places that I went to. Some of these old buildings are wonderful. I think that St. Paul’s Cathedral interested me most, although Madam Tussauds was also wonderful. The wax images were perfect, and you would think that they were human beings, in fact, one of the boys who was with me spoke to a wax sailor, thinking that he was alive. The place is very up-to-date, as you can see by the catalogue. They have a figure of Kitchener, Mike O’Leary, V.C., Lord Roberts and others who came to prominence in the present war, or who have recently died.
I have only received one letter from you and one from father since we landed, although I expect to receive one every Canadian mail that comes in, and expect to get one before you get this.
Bramshott Camp is far nicer than Borden, although they work us very hard here. We had maneuvers in the dark last night, and a ten mile route march today. It was stiff work, but it will do us good and give my feet a good test. I must close now hoping that you are all well.
With love to all.
Your loving son,
Reg.
