Returned Soldiers

The following men are at present at Quebec and will probably come forward in two sections. BX December 14, 1917

On Way Home

Corporal J. Maich, 82 Strathcona Avenue, is expected home from the front today. He went overseas with the 32nd Battery Ammunition Column, leaving Brantford in August 1914. He has been wounded, and is home at present on leave of absence, but expects his discharge soon. He left Halifax just before the recent disaster. Corp. Maich’s little daughter is ill in the Brantford General Hospital with diphtheria.

Corporal J. Maich arrived last evening on the T.H. and B. George MacDonald of the Soldiers’ Aid, and Sergt. C. Stodden, who was overseas with Corp. Maich, went down to the L.E. and N. to meet him. Two other soldiers are expected to arrive on Sunday. Corp. Maich’s little girl, who is suffering from diphtheria is slightly improved and considered out of danger.

Joseph Maich, 82, of Galt, died Tuesday in South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Galt.  He was born in Scotland and came to Brantford in 1910 and to Galt in 1924.  Mr. Maich was a retired electrician and had been with the Galt PUC.  Surviving besides his wife, the former Kate McCormac, are two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Marion) Wiley of Galt, Mrs. Herbert (Ruth) Campbell of Dutton; four sons, Joseph, David, Alec, all of California, James of Willowdale; two brothers, Alec and John both of Brantford; a sister, Mrs. James (Annie) Jack of Brantford.  Mr. Maich is at the Coutts and Son Funeral Home, Galt, for service Thursday at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in Mount View Cemetery.
