Private Joseph Bell Now on List of Dead – Previously Was Wounded at First Battle of Ypres – More Casualties

Private Wilfred Allan Bell of the 125th Battalion, Tutela Post Office, has received the sad news that his father, Pte. Joseph Bell No. 11330 died of wounds on June 21, at No 23 Central Hospital, Boulogne, France. The announcement is official. Private Joseph Bell left here with the 4th Battalion, first contingent and previous to that served in the Imperial Army, Royal Garrison Artillery. He was previously wounded in the left shoulder, at the battle of Ypres in April. Previous to enlistment, he worked at the Massey-Harris Company’s plant here. He was 43 years of age and leaves to mourn his loss one son, Wilfred Allan of the 125th Battalion, who is impatiently waiting the chance to get overseas and avenge his father’s death.

BX May 11, 1915

Private Joseph Bell, 217 Cockshutt Road, was reported in the official casualty list this morning as having been wounded. No particulars are given in the report.

Pte Joseph Bell was a resident of the city when war was declared. He enlisted with the Dufferin Rifles active service contingent, he having been a member of the Duffs for three years previously. He was employed as a plumber and had many friends here. He was a member of the first section of the Dufferin Rifles and fought with the 4th Battalion.
