BX November 15, 1917

Mrs. Henry Sowers of 8 Ruth Street has received word that her son, Private John Harvey Sowers has been wounded and admitted to a field ambulance depot. He was wounded on November 6, and is suffering from shrapnel wounds in the hand and hip, and has a fractured leg. He formerly worked at the Cordage Works. A second son, Private Abraham Sowers has also been wounded.

John Harvey Sowers

John H. Sowers, 67, of 1015 Colborne Street East, died Sunday at his residence.  He was born in Scotland, Ont., a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Sowers.  Mr. Sowers farmed near Scotland previous to coming to Brantford about 50 years ago. He was a former employee of Robbins and Myers Company of Canada Limited, retiring in 1931.  During the First World War he enlisted with the 125th Battalion, served overseas and was wounded at Vimy Ridge.  Surviving besides his wife the former Maude Wheeler, are two sons, George and Harold, both at home.  Mr. Sowers is at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home until Wednesday for service in the chapel at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot, Mount Hope Cemetery.  Rev. W.A. Glazer of Cainsville United Church will officiate.
