Former Local Officer Dead – Capt. J.H. McLean Was Once in F. Co. Dufferin Rifles

Major J.S. Hamilton had advices today from London, England, of the death there of Captain John Henry McLean on October 30.  The funeral took place on November 2 to Brompton cemetery.  The late Capt. McLean was first lieutenant in old F. Co. of the Dufferin Rifles and later captain of the company.  “Jack,” as he was best known, was a nephew of the late Thomas McLean and his head bookkeeper for 20 years or so.  He was a prominent figure in musical circles in the old days and well-known in Brantford.  His widow now resides in Toronto.

Word was received today from London, England of the death of Captain John H. McLean, formerly of Brantford.  He was lieutenant in No. 6 Company when Major Hamilton was in command and succeeded him as captain.  He died in London on October 30th and was buried at Brompton Cemetery, Nov. 2.  He was a nephew of the late Thomas McLean, dry goods merchant, and was the head bookkeeper.  For about twenty years he resided in London, England and most of the time was engaged in newspaper work.  For the past few years he has been failing in health and resided with this mother at 85 Chelsea Gardens, London, where he died.  Major Harry McLean, of the 125th Battalion, now in England, and one of his daughters was with him when he died.  His wife now resides in Toronto.
