BX August 20, 1918

On August 10, Private James Hepburn Jack was admitted to No. 9 General Hospital, Rouen, suffering from a gunshot wound in the chest. He worked in the shear room of the Cockshutt Plow Co., and resided at 92 Strathcona Avenue.

BX March 25, 1916

A very happy event took place at the home of Mrs. Joseph Maich, 82 Strathcona Avenue, Friday evening, March 24, when Pte. James H. Jack of the 125th battalion was united in marriage to Miss Annie F. Maich; sister of Pte. John Maich, also of the 125th, and Pte. Joseph Maich, who went with the first soldiers to the front. The ceremony was performed by Rev. D.T. McClintock, about 40 guests being present. Pte. Charles Patullo of the 215th assisted the bridegroom and Miss Marion Bryson the bridesmaid, while the two little daughters of Mrs. Joe Maich acted as flower girls. After a sumptuous dinner, congratulations were extended in line of addresses by the pastor and Mr. Price. The bridegroom replied in a brief and manly speech. Mrs. (Dr.) Nicol sang sweetly “Comin’ Thro’ the Rye.” Many gifts testified to the popularity of the young couple. Mr. and Mrs. Jack will make their home on Aberdeen Avenue. On Monday Mr. Jack’s fellow workmen in Cockshutt’s presented him with a parlor table as a token of good-will and best wishes for a happy life.

James Hepburn Jack

James Hepburn Jack, 72, of 18 Strathcona Avenue, died Friday at the Brantford General Hospital. He was born at Kirkcaldy, Scotland and has lived here since coming to Canada 53 years ago. Mr. Jack was a veteran of the First World War, fighting with the 125th Battalion. He was a member of Alexander Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and the clerk of Kirk Session for 30 years. He was a member of Reba Masonic Lodge and was a past noble grand of Mohawk Lodge, IOOF. He was employed as an accountant of the former Royal Savings and Loan Company, now the Canada Permanent Mortgage Corporation, before retiring in 1956. Surviving are his wife, the former Annie Maich; two sons, Rev. James D. Jack of Cobourg, Ont. And David H. Jack of Fergus, and eight grandchildren. Mr. Jack will be at the McCleister Funeral Home until Monday. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Alexander Presbyterian Church. Rev. William Skilly will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
