Herbert Lester

The death occurred in Christie Street Hospital, Toronto, at 1 a.m. on Friday morning of Herbert Lester in his 40th year.  Mrs. Lester was called down to Toronto on Saturday last and remained Till his passing away.  Deceased was born in England coming to Canada ab out 20 years ago.  Before joining the army he was on the staff of the Sentinel-Review.  In November, 1915, he joined the 32nd Battery of Artillery in Brantford, was transferred to the 40th Battery with which he went to France and later transferred to the Divisional Ammunition Colum, returning home after demobilization.  For a time he worked at the Walker Press and finally with the Paris Star and during the latter part of the late editor’s ownership, he had complete charge, although himself in very indifferent health, till finally he was admitted to Christie Street Hospital.  Besides being on the council for two years he was a hard worker in the Anglican Church, in the choir, A.Y.P.A. work and being assistant superintendent of the Sunday school.  He was a past master of St. John’s lodge, 32 A.F. and A.M.  Besides his sorrowing widow, he leaves to mourn his loss a mother in Leicester, England, and a brother, William in Detroit.  The funeral, under Masonic auspices will be held from the residence, Broadway Street, at 3.15 p.m. Monday, November 11 with Interment in St. James’ Anglican Cemetery, Paris.
