Henry Hawley

The death of Henry Hawley, a well-known resident of this City, occurred at his home, 76 Ontario Street late Saturday night, following a long period of failing health.

Mr. Hawley was a life-long resident of this locality.  He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Hawley, highly respected residents of Brant County.  His early years were spent in farming, but for the past forty-five years Mr. Hawley lived in Brantford.  He was a valued member of the Department of Customs staff, for twenty-six years, having retired just three years ago.

During the war Mr. Hawley served overseas with the 125th Battalion. He was a member of Wesley United Church and of Brant Lodge No. 45, A.F. and A.M., and of Gore Lodge No. 34, I.O.O.F.

Surviving are his widow, the former Agnes Trotter, one son, Thomas G., 53 Brighton Avenue, and two daughters, Mrs. A.E. Plowes, 63 Port Street, and Mrs. L.E. Ostrander, Winnipeg, Manitoba.  A sister, Mrs. Harrier Kitchen, Toronto, also survives.

The late Mr. Hawley is resting at the McCleister Funeral Home, 48 Brant Avenue, where service will be held Tuesday afternoon.  Interment will be made in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Henry Hawley

The funeral of Henry Hawley was conducted from the McCleister Funeral Home, 48 Brant Avenue, Tuesday afternoon and was largely attended.  The many beautiful floral tributes attested to the high esteem in which Mr. Hawley was held by associates in business, fraternal, and other circles throughout the City.  Rev. F. Hendershot, Pastor of Wesley United Church officiated.  Mr. Hugh Martin sang “in the Garden,” accompanied at the piano by Miss Norma Papple.  At the graveside the beautiful committal rites of the Masonic order were exemplified under the direction of Wor. Bro. A.L. Gilmour, Wor. Bro. A.G. Bowden, and Sec. G. Whitwill.  The pallbearers were E. Ostrander, O. Patterson, R. Lyle, W. Scruton, H. Mulligan and M. Winegarden.  Interment was made in Mount Hope Cemetery.
