Details: During operations on Vimy Ridge on April 9th and 10th, 1917, Pte. Lacey showed great gallantry and devotion to duty in acting as a runner under heavy fire. On the afternoon of April 10th, he crossed the open for 100 yards in full view of the enemy under rifle and machine gun fire carrying an important message to his Company Commander.

Military Medal for his Services – Pte. Grant Albert Lacey Honored by His Superiors for Gallant Work

Word was received in the city yesterday that Pte. Grant Lacey was decorated on May 20 with the Military Medal for services on April 9 and succeeding days. Pte. Grant Lacey went overseas with the first Brants and was drafted to a battalion in France last October. A brother, E.H. Lacey who went overseas with the First Contingent, is also a member of the same battalion.

Private Grant Albert Lacey of Brantford is reported wounded this morning. Pte. Grant Lacey was a resident of Grandview and employed on a farm there when he enlisted. He was 18 years of age. He went overseas with the first Brant County Battalion.

LACEY – At. St. Joseph’s Hospital on Wednesday, July 30, 1975, Grant Albert Lacey, in his 79th year of 287 Grey Street; beloved husband of Edith Mary Beech; dear father of Mrs. Evelyn Palmer, Collingwood; Miss Marion Lacey, Brantford. Also 4 grandchildren; Callum, Wendy, Christine and Leah. Predeceased by 2 sisters, Mrs. Ruth Eagleton and Mrs. Mabel Fields and a brother Eben Lacey. Mr. Lacey served with the 125th Battalion and the Mad Fourth in World War One and was decorated with the Military Medal; Served in World War Two with Dufferin and Haldimand Rifles; life member of Branch 90 Royal Canadian Legion, Sergeants Mess and 4th Battalion Association, Toronto. Resting at the Beckett-Glaves Funeral Home, 88 Brant Avenue, for service on Friday, at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Howard Johnson, officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Donations to charity appreciated.
