Letters and documents

BX September 16, 1918

Mr. and Mrs. Bert O’Heron, 142 William Street, on Sunday night received word that their son, Private Gordon Harold O’Heron had been admitted to the 26th General Hospital Etaples, suffering from a gunshot wound in the jaw inflicted on September 3rd.

Gordon enlisted with the 215th Battalion and went overseas with that unit, but in April was transferred to the 38th. He was only a lad of 17 when he became a soldier, and he underwent an operation at Brantford hospital in order to pass examination. He had attended the B.C.I. but at the time of enlistment he was employed by the Watson Manufacturing Co. His brother, Leo, is also in France and has seen 27 months’ service at the front. His father, too, has been to France and was discharged only in April as being unfit for further service. Mrs. O’Heron has given her all to the cause, for just a few weeks ago she received word that her brother Eli Luscombe was wounded, and another brother, Sergeant Charles Luscombe is a member of the United States troops overseas.
