BX April 26, 1918

Mrs. M. Short, Fulton Street, Grandview, has been officially notified that her son, Private Gilbert Griffith Short was wounded on April 18, receiving shell splinters in the hip. Pte. Short left Brantford with the 125th Battalion and was later transferred to the Canadian Grenadier Guards, a Montreal battalion, with which he was serving when wounded. He has been admitted to the Middlesex County War hospital at St. Albans.

Gilbert Griffith Short

Gilbert G. Short of 100 Fulton Street, died Monday evening in the Brantford General Hospital. Born at West Hartlepool, Durham, England, 66 years ago, he came to Brantford in 1911 and resided here since except for five years in Detroit. A veteran of the First World War, he served overseas with the 125th Battalion and was wounded at Vimy Ridge. He was a member of Branch 90, Canadian Legion, the International Union of Moulders and Foundry Workers of American, Local 29; he attended St. James’ Anglican Church. A gun operator, he was employed at the Canadian Car and Foundry and at the Canadian Army Vehicle Depot in Hagersville. Surviving are his widow, the former Ada Ruth Skett and one daughter, Mrs. Clint (Gloria) Dickinson; two sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Kathleen) Horner, Mrs. William (Marie) Cooper, all of Brantford; one brother Wilfred of St. Clair, Mich., and two grandchildren. Mr. Short will rest at the Beckett Funeral Home from Wednesday where the service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. Rev. F.A. Cook of St. James’ Church and Rev. D.A. Loveday of Central Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
