Details: For great bravery and devotion to duty during the bombardment at Mount Sorrel on 2nd June 1916. He then joined the 5th Battalion as a bomber, digging himself in under heavy fire. When ordered to retire he returned again with bombs. When the battalion was relived, he joined another battalion in their charge, remaining at duty for 48 hours without food or sleep.

Veteran Returns

Sergeant George Henry Rolph returned to his home here yesterday. He was with the 4th C.M.R., and for his bravery with the stretcher-bearers was awarded the Military Medal. He was once gassed and once more wounded, and because of his eyesight being affected, has been invalided home. Previous to enlistment he was employed in Walsh’s grocery, West Mill Street.
