George D. Meikle

The death of George Dale Meikle, 14 Spring Street, occurred today in Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto.  Born in Paisley Scotland, Mr. Meikle came here 39 years ago and at the outbreak of the First World War enlisted with the 84th Battalion.  He later served with the 75th Battalion and was wounded in action.  On his return he worked for some years in the Post Office here and retired in 1946.  Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. George F. (Peggy) Huff, Brantford.  His wife predeceased him on November 4.  Mr. Meikle will rest at the Beckett Funeral Home from Friday.  Funeral arrangements will be made later.

The funeral service for George Dale Meikle was conducted Saturday afternoon at the Beckett Funeral Home, by Rev. G. Deane Johnston, of Central Presbyterian Church.  Representatives from the Post Office and of veteran’s organizations of which the deceased was a member, attended the service.  The large display of flowers further evinced the esteem in which Mr. Meikle was held.  The pallbearers were John Gibson, James Wallace, J. Penrose, J. Chandler, R. Leitch and A. Hall.  Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
