Word has been received by Mrs. T. Hewitt, Echo Place, that her son, Corporal George Hewitt, is very ill at the Second Hospital at Brighton, England. Corp. George Hewitt had been in France for nearly two years and had escaped wounds. He enlisted in the 125th Battalion and went over to France on transfer to the 71st Battalion. He formerly worked at the Ham and Nott factory here.

BX March 23, 1979

HEWITT, George – At the Brantford General Hospital, Thursday, March 22, 1979 in his 85th year, George Hewitt of 95 Henry Street; beloved husband of the late Blanche Hewitt; dear father of Mrs. Norman (Delcy) Hall and Mrs. Herbert (Helen) File both of Brantford; predeceased by a sister, Clara, and brother, James; also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Mr. Hewitt served overseas in the First World War with the 125th Battalion and the 75th Battalion and received the Military Medal of Honor. Mr. Hewitt was also a lifetime member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church.  Visitation at the McCleister Funeral Home Ltd., 30 Brant Avenue, from 7 p.m. Saturday.  Funeral service in the chapel, Monday at 11 a.m.  Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery.  Rev. A.F. Heron of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, officiating.
