BX November 6, 1917

Mrs. Alice Spencer, 148 Eagle Avenue, Monday received word that her husband, Private Frederick Spencer had been admitted to the 64th casualty clearing station suffering from shell gas. Pte. Spencer went overseas with the first overseas battalion from the 38th Dufferin Rifles. He was employed at the Massey-Harris Works.

BX November 7, 1917

Two casualties to Brantford men who went overseas with the first overseas battalion from the 38th Dufferin rifles are reported in a late list issued this afternoon. Pte. T.C. Whitfield, 30 Grey Street, married, was a machinist before enlisting. Pte. Frederick Spencer, 148 Eagle Avenue, is also married, and prior to enlisting was a brass finisher. Both were wounded.
