Letters and documents

BX August 1, 1917

Word has been received in the city that Private Frederick John Smith, 146 Wellington Street, formerly of Ham and Nott. Ltd., has for the past eleven weeks been in Edinburgh hospital suffering from frostbite contracted while in France. He has had the misfortune to lose the big toe on his right foot, it being amputated a few weeks ago. Pte. Frederick Smith went overseas with the first overseas battalion of the Duffs and was later drafted to a battalion in France. He expects to be moved shortly to Epsom Convalescent home.
