Frederick H. Scammell

The death of Frederick H. Scammell, husband of Mary Ann Ashley Scammell, 85 Charlotte Street, occurred this morning at the Brantford General Hospital.  Born at Erith, Kent, England, he served with the Royal Artillery of the Imperial Army.  He came to Canada 43 years ago and at the outbreak of the First World War, he enlisted with the 76th Battalion CEF, then transferred to the 9th Brigade Machine Gunners.  By trade he was a metal worker and was employed at the Brantford Coach and Body Ltd. For 20 years.  Mr. Scammell was a member of the Canadian Legion Branch 90 and of the Ex-Imperials.  He was an adherent of Grace Anglican Church.  He is survived by his widow; three sisters, Mrs. J. Seaward, Mrs. G. Austen and Mrs. C. Abrams, and a brother, Eric, all in England.  Mr. Scammell is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home for service Saturday at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Frederick H. Scammell

Many friends and relatives attended the funeral of Frederick Harry Scammell, husband of Mary A. Scammell, 85 Charlotte Street, conducted Saturday afternoon at the Beckett Funeral Home.  Ven. Archdeacon H.F. Appleyard of Grace Church was in charge of the service.  The profusion of floral tributes testified to the esteem in which Mr. Scammell was held.  The pallbearers, all comrades of Mr. Scammell from Branch 90 of the Canadian Legion, were T. Barr, B. Fulcher, J. Turner, S. Varey, B. Stuart and A. Menhennet.  Comrade E.R. Edwards was in charge of the pallbearers.  Interment was in the family plot, Mount Hope Cemetery.
