Mr. A. Sayles, 213 Murray Street, received word yesterday that his son Gunner Fred Sayles, who went overseas with the 54th Battery, is now in Preston Military Hospital, England suffering from a fractured limb, Gunner Sayles was through the big drive at Arras and at that time injured.

Frederick H. Sayles

Frederick Harold Sayles of 56 Alfred Street died Monday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in his 69th year.  The son of the late Ashley Sayles and Matilda Sarah Hampton, he was born in Brant County and was a lifelong resident of Brantford and district.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Brantford Air Force Club and the Brantford Community Concert Association.  Prior to his retirement, Mr. Sayles was an employee of the general delivery office of the Brantford Post Office, and was a member of the Canadian Postal Employees Association.  A veteran of the First World War he served overseas with the Sixth Battery, C.F.A., First Division.  Surviving are one brother, James Harris Sayles of Hamilton; one sister, Mrs. W.J. (Margaret) Ham of Brantford.  Mr. Sayles is resting at Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home where service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m., followed by interment in Mount Hope Cemetery.  Rev. H. Lancelot Morgan of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate.
