Frank Knowles

An impressive funeral, semi-military in its character, was conducted Saturday afternoon when the remains of the late Bandsman Frank Knowles of the Canadian Legion were laid to rest. Service was conducted at McCleister’s funeral home, Brant Avenue, by Rev. Canon A.L.G. Clarke, rector of Grace Church and the cortege preceded by the Canadian Legion band, under Bandmaster Acland, proceeded to Mount Hope cemetery, where interment was made, the commitment service being conducted by Canon Clarke.  The band played the “Dead March” from the funeral home to the Bell Memorial and at the cemetery played two favorite hymns of the deceased, “Jesus, Lover of My Soul,” and “Abide with Me.”  The “Last Post,” was sounded by Buglers J. Frost and James Horney.  The pallbearers were: J. McGregor, A. Chambers, J. Hughes, J. Fossey, F. Sweet and F. Bremner. There were many beautiful floral tributes and these, with the large attendance of friends, indicated the high esteem in which the late Bandsman Knowles was held.
