Cause and Place of Death: Died of Wounds, No. 6 Casualty Clearing Station.

BX November 5, 1918

Mrs. Charlotte Springle, Mohawk Road, today received official advice that her son, Pte. Ernest Frederick Springle of the machine gun corps had been dangerously wounded on November 1. He has been admitted to the 6th Casualty Clearing Station. Private Springle went overseas with the C.O.R. last winter. He had been serving with the 4th Battalion.

BX November 16, 1918

There was many a sad heart in Brantford last Tuesday when it became known that “Erny” Springle had paid the supreme sacrifice and died of wounds received in battle on Nov. 1, at No. 6 casualty clearing station the day he was admitted. It was a very severe blow to his mother, Mrs. Springle, of Mohawk road, and to his three brothers and two sisters, left to mourn his death. He went away with the 215th and was in a machine gun corps. He had only been in France a few months. When peace came all had hoped he would be spared to return, but it was not to be. God’s will is best, and his mother and friends have the consolation he was a noble Christian soldier who did his duty, even unto death. He was born on October 29, 1894, and was 24 years old. He was an employee of the Cockshutt Plow Company, a member of the Court Endeavor, A.O.F., and a valued member and worker of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he will be greatly missed. Particulars of his death are expected from his chaplain, with whom he was a favorite. His bereaved mother and family have the sincere sympathy of their many friends.
