Philatelist, Pharmacist Dies at 69

Elmore D. Taylor, prominent local philatelist, graduate pharmacist and for 20 years certified sanitary inspector with he Brant County Health Unit, died on Wednesday in Brantford General Hospital.

Mr. Taylor was born in Brantford 69 years ago, son of the late William and Sarah Taylor.  He served in the First World War with the 1st Tank Battalion.

One of the originators of the Brantford Stamp Club, Mr. Taylor was a member of the Canadian Philatelic Society, and was a lifelong member of Central Presbyterian Church, being an honorary member of its board of managers and having served as secretary.

He was a graduate in pharmacy from the University of Toronto, and became associated with M.H. Robertson and Co., subsequently operating his own pharmacy on Colborne Street.  Thereafter he went with the Brant County Health Unit, retiring in 1958.

Surviving are his wife, the former Charlotte A. Matthews, of 330 Erie Avenue; a son, Donald of London; a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Elizabeth) Forsythe of London; a sister, Miss Ethel Taylor of Brantford; six grandchildren.  Mr. Taylor is at the Beckett Funeral Home for service Friday at 3 p.m. with interment in the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery.  Rev. Dr. G. Deane Johnston of Central Presbyterian Church will officiate.
