Circumstances of Casualty: Killed in Action. He was killed during the attack and capture of Vimy Ridge. His body was found lying in a shell hole but there were no wounds to be seen on the body and apparently his death was the result of concussion from an exploding shell.

BX May 10, 1917

Word was received here today that Private Elind Joseph Schrag, of a Manitoba battalion machine gun section, had been killed in action at Vimy Ridge. He was born in Brantford and resided here many years, but recently had been residing in Manitoba, where his wife and daughter reside. They will shortly come to Brantford to take up residence. Mrs. B. English, 142 Alfred Street, is a sister-in-law of the deceased hero.
