Former City Engineer E.T. McLaren Dies, 73

Edward Toles (Pete) McLaren, former Brantford City engineer, died Wednesday at the Brantford General Hospital, in his 74th year.  He was born at Mount Pleasant, and was employed with the Grand Valley Railway from 1908 to 1910 as location engineer, and by the City of Brantford for more than 30 years as city engineer.  He resigned because of ill health.

He served overseas in the Frist World War with the Royal Canadian Engineers, and in the Second World War with the Department of Transport, supervising the layout of Air Force Stations.

He was a member of Court Southern Glen, Canadian Order of Foresters and Scotland Lodge, No. 193 A.F. and A.M.

Surviving besides his widow, the former Ada M. Acret, are one daughter, Helen of R6 Brantford, and one brother, Robert, W. of Windsor.

Mr. McLaren is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home, where the service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday.  Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The funeral service for Edward Toles (Pete) McLaren, Brantford, former city engineer, was conducted Friday afternoon at the Beckett Funeral Home, Archdeacon H.F. Appleyard, of Grace Anglican Church, officiated.  There was a large gathering of relatives and friends, from the city and out-of-town points, a representations from the city engineers department and a large display of floral tributes.  The pallbearers were T.J. Fullerton, and E.W. Lloyd Jones, both nephews, G.H. Richards, Arthur Higgins, Norman Houlding and Gordon MacFarlane.  Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
