Edward Groat

Edward Groat, 73, formerly of Brantford, died Sunday at Westminster Hospital, London.  Born on the Six Nations Reserve, he was a resident of Brantford for 2 years.  He was a veteran of the First and Second World Wars.  Mr. Groat served with the 114th Battalion in the First World War and was with No. 20 Training Depot here as corporal in the Second World War.  A sign writer, he operated his own business here.  Mr. Groat was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 90 and latterly the Hagersville Branch.  Surviving besides his wife, the former Sara Latham, are one son, Stanley, of London; one daughter, Mrs. James (Irene) Lickers, of Brantford; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Maracle of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren.  A son, George, died in 1938.  Mr. Groat is at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home until Wednesday for service in the chapel at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.
