BX January 3, 1946

Clarence John Hawke

After two years illness, Clarence John (Dick) Hawke, fifty, husband of Mary Gertrude Judge, passed away Wednesday evening at the residence, 56 Waterloo Street.  Mr. Hawke was a member of First Baptist Church, and was active in the work of the church.  He was a Past Grand of Gore Lodge, I.O.O.F., and a member of Post No. 90 Canadian Legion.  Mr. Hawke served overseas in the First Great War with the 125th Battalion.  He had been a letter carrier for 25 years.  Surviving, besides his widow are a daughter, Miss G. Fern Hawke, at home, two brothers, Norman Hawke, Detroit, Michigan, and Charles Hawke, Toronto, also three sisters, Mrs. S. Riley, Waterloo, Mrs. G.W. Spies, Montreal, and Mrs. John Willis, London, Ontario.  Mr. Hawke is resting at Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home, where the service will be conducted Saturday afternoon.  Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The funeral of Clarence John (Dick) Hawke, was conducted Saturday afternoon from Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home, to Mount Hope Cemetery, where interment took place.  Rev. Wayman Roberts, Pastor of First Baptist Church, conducted the service at the Funeral Home and the gravesides.  Members of Gore Lodge, I.O.F., Brant Encampment I.O.O.F., and the Canadian Legion, Post No. 90 of which Mr. Hawke was a member, attended the service.  Brantford Letter Carriers with whom Mr. Hawke worked for 25 years, also attended.  Members of Gore Lodge conducted a service Friday evening at the Funeral Home with Noble Grand Arthur Vickers and Chaplain E. Lockley taking part.  The pallbearers were: Fred Wright, Henry Russ, John Simpson, William Fielding, George Jennings and Sharp Riley.
