Harry Benjamin Near

Harry Benjamin Near died this morning at his residence in Alberton, Ont., in his 54th year. Born in Langford, he had been a life-long resident of this City and district. During the First Great War, he enlisted with the 125th Battalion and served overseas. Mr. Near was affiliated with the United Church of Canada, and was a member of the local branch of the Canadian Legion. Surviving are his widow, three sons, Edward, George and Ross, at home; eight daughters, Mrs. I Burtch (Josephine), Dresden, Ont.; Mrs. S. Hickey (Margaret), and Mrs. J. Cromwell (Verna), both of Brantford; Miss Doris Near, Mrs. W. Rowley (Mildred), and Misses Laurine, Laura and Benita Near, all at home, and four brothers, Leon Near, Woodstock; Harold Near, Denver, Colorado; Frank Near, Wardsville, Ont., and Harry Near, Ailsa Craig. Mr. Near is resting at Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home, where the service will be held Friday afternoon, and interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot, Mount Hope Cemetery.

Funeral services for Harvey Benjamin Near, Alberton Ont. Were conducted at Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home, and at the Soldiers’ Plot, Mount Hope Cemetery, on Friday afternoon. Rev. W.C. Almack, Minister of Brant Avenue United Church, was in charge. The pallbearers were: Ivan Burtch, David Allman, Wilbert Rowley, Lea Kebedian, Jack Sager and Ray McDermott.
