Honour or Award: Military Medal

Name: Arthur Leslie Kern (174625)
Unit: 4th Canadian Machine Gun Company

Details: North of Fresnoy, May 6th 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action. During an alternation in the disposition of Machine Guns the enemy opened a heavy artillery bombardment and delivered a strong attack. Under most adverse circumstances Pte. Kern brought his gun into action and when the right of the infantry holding the front line was in danger of being cut off, he brought a strong covering fire to bear which enabled an orderly retirement to a new position. A few hours later he advanced his gun with our counter attack and his efficient work was valuable.
