Circumstances of Casualty: Killed in Action. Shortly before reaching the objective during the attack South West of Dury, he was hit and instantly killed by shrapnel from an enemy shell.

Word has been received that Private Albert Daniel Dyer Matthews has been killed in action. His death took place on Sept. 2. Private Matthews left here with the 215th Battalion and was later transferred to the 54th Battalion, France, with which he was serving when killed. The news of his death was received by his sister-in-law, Mrs. Lily Matthews. Previous to enlistment he was sergeant in charge of the armories at Burford. He was a member of Doric lodge, A.F. and A.M., also Court Success, A.O.F. The late Private Matthews leaves a wife and young daughter resident in England. His little son died last June.

Private Albert Daniel Dyer Matthews of Burford has been killed in action, according to word received yesterday by his sister-in-law, Mrs. Lily Matthews. Private Matthews, whose wife and child are now living in England, was formerly in charge of the Brant Dragoons' armories at Burford, and went overseas with the 215th Battalion. He was a member of the Masonic order and also of the A.O.F.
