Neil Prior Dies Suddenly

Cornelius (Neil) Prior, 62, of 291 Grand River Avenue, secretary-treasurer of the Telephone City Branch of the Canadian Legion for the past 12 years, died suddenly this morning in St. Joseph’s Hospital.

A member of the former Great War Veterans’ Association, Mr. Prior joined the Canadian Legion in 1927.

He was a member of the 25 Year Club of the Telephone City Branch, and a member of the War Amputations Association of Canada.  He lost his right leg while serving in France with the 75th Battalion, after enlisting with the 125th Battalion here in January, 1916.

He had recently recovered from a serious illness, and worked yesterday at the Legion office.  He was taken ill at midnight and died soon after.

Born in Reading England, Mr. Prior came to Brantford 45 years ago.

Surviving besides his widow, the former Elizabeth Rowe, are three sons, William, Cleveland, John and Allen, both of Brantford, one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Joan) Moore, Brantford; nine grandchildren, also, two brothers and one sister in England.

Mr. Prior is resting at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home until Saturday, when service will be conducted at 2 p.m.

Interment will be in the Soldier’s Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.
